Unless you have a rare pass to the paddock, you have limited opportunities to meet your favourite rider, take a photo, or ask for an autograph. But it's not impossible, so don't give up. Here are our tips:
Fan zones
Some riders participate in the program in fan zones, as their advertising contracts prescribe. In particular, keep an eye on the social networks of the organiser, teams, riders and sponsors that support your favourite. There you will find out when and where you can catch your idol.
Hero Walk
The Hero Walk offers a distinctive opportunity for fans to engage with drivers. Throughout Saturday and Sunday, select riders from the MotoGP Moto2 and Moto3 supporting categories, participate in the 'Hero Walk.' During this event, a limited number of fans have the chance to interact directly with the riders, requesting autographs or selfies and enjoying a memorable experience.
In front of the circuit
Some of the riders do not sleep on the circuit but in hotels. The parking lots near the main entrance are usually reserved for holders of the most prestigious parking passes, which include the riders. You can try to wait nearby; however, get there early. The riders usually arrive at the circuit before the start of the race programme each day to avoid congestion.
MotoGP Riders Autograph Session
A MotoGP Riders Autograph Session is an event where fans can meet and get autographs from their favourite MotoGP riders. These sessions are often held during race weekends, allowing fans to interact with the athletes and collect memorabilia. More information is in our Fan Zone guide.
Racers differ in how they interact with fans, so it's important to follow a few basic principles. First, never hold up a racer if they’re heading somewhere. They’re often under immense pressure, and if they choose not to stop, don’t insist or get upset. If you're seeking an autograph, your chances improve if you have official rider merchandise ready for signing.
Presenting generic items like plain t-shirts, bras, paper, or even skin might result in the rider moving on, as many other fans are waiting for their turn. Want a photo with a racer? It's possible, but always be considerate. The best approach is to have someone else take the picture for you. If you prefer a selfie, be mindful of the racer's personal space. Not all racers are comfortable with being hugged by strangers, especially in a crowd.
In MotoGP racing, if you come up with a clever idea, chances are tens of thousands of others have thought of it too. Need to dash to the bathroom during a short break? Grab a bite to eat? So does everyone else. To avoid wasting valuable time in long lines, plan ahead. Try adjusting your schedule by eating or using the restroom earlier or later than the crowd, so you can spend more time enjoying the event and less time waiting.
In our grandstand guide, you will always find tips on where to go and what you can see from a given grandstand. It's a good idea to know what you're interested in beforehand. If you want to be as close to the track as possible or are a keen amateur photographer and want the best shot, plan accordingly, what ticket you'll buy and how you'll move around. Seat tickets usually include general admission, so it's no problem to watch the Malaysian MotoGP from multiple locations throughout the weekend.
Despite some race promoters organising a so-called "track invasion" after the race, this usually is not the case for the MotoGP Malaysian Grand Prix. Therefore if you would like to watch the podium celebration, buy a ticket to the Main Grandstand.
